One More Chance

I wrote this poem for my Grandpa shortly after I learned he had passed away. Though it's been years, I still miss him dearly. I know he's watching over me and I'll get to see him again one day.

One More Chance

I thought I had one more chance,
To tell you just the way I felt,
Now I'm here in a trance,
The tears fell again, as I prayed and knelt.

We rang in the New Year,
With a feeling of dread.
And we did cry a many a tear,
The sad day they said you were dead.

I'll never forget the words I heard you say,
"Be careful, remember, I love you."
We left again on that day,
Now my worst nightmare came true.

I think you knew what my feelings were,
You always seemed to understand.
I just wish I knew for sure,
But now it's too late to hold your hand.

I thought I had one more chance,
To tell you just the way I felt.
Now I'm here in a trance,
The tears fell again, as I prayed and knelt.

Love you Grandpa

    1. Thanks so much Rob. Yeah, I used to be a big fan of rhyming though I think I'm starting to grow out of it a bit. Most the poems on here were written a while back. This one I actually turned into a song and sang it during during the spreading of my grandparent's ashes since I wasn't able to return to the US in time for the funeral.

  3. This is a great poem. I'm not really a lover of rhyming, but I think you did this one well. The love and emotion for your grandfather can really be seen here. It's not the easiest thing to do.

Thank you for sharing this piece with us :D
